#AGwx #NEwx #KSwx #MOwx #IAwx Heavy rains southeast, nice into early next week…pattern then returning back to active? K.

Key Points – Thursday, May 4, 2017:

Synopsis: Good Thursday morning! We are so close to being rain-free across the entire central Plains today, we continue to have heavy rains moving east across portions of Missouri today, however the remainder of Zone 8 will stay clear, mild with some gusty winds at times. Beyond today, we see that forecasted dry period we’ve been talking about for weeks finally come to fruition…very nice weather and some warmth returns to most of the Zone with the exception of folks across eastern Iowa who stay a little bit more chilly. Next chance of rain comes early to mid next week as showers and storms ride around the high pressure to the south, details in the video. Have a blessed day!

Current Radar:

Remaining showers today moving off to the east…some may be heavy at times across eastern Missouri.

A little gusty today at times as well across the eastern half of the Zone, with some gusts topping 40mph possible across eastern Kansas into Missouri today and Missouri tomorrow.

Remaining rainfall totals across Missouri…1-2″ still likely before the system completely moves off to the east.

Nice stretch of warm weather ahead!

As mentioned in the video, we are not sold that the pattern in the 6-10 day and beyond remains completely dry across the central Plains. The biggest reason why is because in many instances, especially in summer, moisture flows around the periphery of a ridge which allows showers and storms to ride around the ridge (commonly known as “ridge runners”) which look to keep us wet in some locations. It’ll be a case of the “have’s and the have-nots”, not necessary everyone gets in on the rains, but we also don’t think everyone stays dry.

Confidence and Risk:

  • High confidence of showers move east across eastern Missouri today, some being heavy at times.
  • Above average confidence the remaining locations in Zone 8 stay dry and nice today.
  • Above average confidence we stay dry and nice Friday through early next week allowing conditions in the fields to continue to improve.
  • Average risk we get rain to ride the periphery of the ridge early to mid next week that could keep us wet…need to watch this pattern closely.
