#AGwx #ILwx #Plant17 Heavy Rains Today, Frost Sunday-Monday, Warmer Next Week? E.

Key Points: May 4, 2017

Synopsis: Good Thursday morning! We are tracking very heavy rains across southern and central Illinois this morning in areas that really don’t need it. Meanwhile, little to no rain is falling across northwestern Illinois! Rains continue across the southern half of Illinois through tomorrow morning before slowly pushing east tomorrow afternoon. A weak disturbance will bring some showers Friday night through the region, then we are expecting a dry weekend with some sun! As an upper level ridge sets up west of the region next week, some quick moving complexes of showers and thunderstorms will be possible almost every day along with warmer temperatures. Timing will get better as we get closer. Have a wonderful day!

  • Current radar shows heavy rains south and central this morning.

  • Because of the heavy rains falling on already saturated soils, flood watches and warnings are up for much of the region.

  • Rains will continue through tomorrow morning before tapering from west to east. Heaviest rains will occur south of I-70.

  • Another weak disturbance will slide through with showers late Friday night into early Saturday with drier conditions expected the rest of the weekend.

  • Total rainfall through Saturday will be impressive south – upwards of 4 inches.

  • A frost threat still exists for Sunday and Monday morning in the northern and eastern portions of the state. Here are projected low temperatures.

  • The video covers the pattern for much of next week so make sure to give it a watch!

Confidence and Risks:

  • Above average confidence in heavy rains today into tonight with heaviest south and east and little or none northwest.
  • Above average confidence in a frost threat Sunday and Monday morning.
  • Increasing confidence in shower and storm chances as well as warmer temperatures through next week.
