9-12-18 Northern Plains: Heat builds this weekend… latest details on shower/storm chances. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone! Showers and storms are lifting along a warm front that is pushing NNE through the area. A couple of strong storms with some hail cannot be ruled out with these storms and the activity likely continues to push NE throughout the morning hours into the early afternoon today before lifting out of the area:

As we work into the overnight hours a strong low-level jet will develop that will aid in lift and storm risks along the stationary frontal boundary. Given where the upper-level forcing and dynamics are located, we favor North-Central ND for the best risk of a line of thunderstorms developing which would contain localized heavy rain and isolated large hail.

Most will miss out on rain from these storms, but localized 1″ of rain cannot be rule out for those in North-Central ND who see rainfall:

We likely see mist and drizzle hang around especially in E. ND and Northern Minnesota throughout the day tomorrow with a few isolated showers. This will be in large part due to temperatures dropping into the 50s in spots with high moisture in the atmosphere. Here’s a look at low temperatures over the next 4 days:

South of the boundary, temperatures will heat up quickly in South Dakota this weekend, with data hinting at upper 90s to near 100. These may be a tad overdone, but with strong wind gusts possible and drier air south of the front, cannot rule out some additional Red Flag Warnings.

We could see some rain and storms Saturday along the frontal boundary before it lifts north into Sunday:
