8-23-19 KS/NE: Eyeing strong storm risks west tonight, weekend weather + eyeing cooler / drier pattern trends into mid-next week. K.

Today’s video:

Observed rainfall over the past 24 hours:

Growing overall pretty inactive regarding widespread rainfall risks across the area today…watching from especially 7pm-3amCT late tonight in this area specifically for elevated risks for strong to severe storms (mainly wind and hail, isolated tornado) and locally heavy rainfall ejecting east of the Rockies:

We see additional scattered heavy showers/storms on Saturday into Sunday AM work moreso across central and eastern Kansas…here’s a look at favored total rainfall guidance over the next 60 hours below. The red circled area we favor fairly widespread 0.5-1.5″, with localized 2-4″+ and flash flooding risks on the table here especially late tonight /early Saturday. The black circle is moreso into the weekend with the risks in these areas seeing additional 0.25-0.75″ (iso 1-2″)+:

Will need to watch late Sunday night into Monday for scattered storms work across southern SD to central Nebraska especially, working southeast to southeast NE to eastern KS Monday evening into the overnight. Also, into Tuesday we anticipate the bulk of the activity to stay confined west…with a very big drying trend from Tuesday to Friday as a whole for us next week:

Total rainfall guidance favored over the next 6 days as a whole…the Euro is likely a bit underdone across eastern Colorado, as discussed above in the short-term forecast with some strong to severe storms late tonight….but a good many of us barring east-central NE / east-central KS pose a risk to see an aggregate of 0.5-1.5″, with localized areas of 2-4″ as well:
