8-20-19 Northern Plains: Dry pattern settles in mid-week…unsettled by the weekend. N.

Today’s video:

Observed rainfall over the past 24 hours…locally heavy rainfall noted across eastern North Dakota central to southern Minnesota:

We anticipate the ongoing wave of showers and storms pushing south in central Minnesota to continue from Hutchinson, Minneapolis to Rochester over the next few hours before weakening and running out of energy closer to the Iowa border…otherwise, it’s a dry day widespread across the forecast areas:

From ~3-9am overnight tonight into tomorrow morning we anticipate far southern SD to be clipped by a wave of showers and t’storms…otherwise, as we mentioned yesterday, heading into Wednesday and even Thursday will be another dry day area-wide:

Total rainfall guidance is the short-term is below (the rain near St. Cloud, MN has already fallen, by the way). As mentioned in the video, ~0.25-0.75″ (locally an inch) possible across SE Minnesota into early afternoon before the wave dies out…similar in far southern SD into tomorrow morning:
