8-20-19 Nebraska: Short Term Update Through Wednesday Evening.V.

Good Tuesday evening!

A current check on radar shows that we are seeing some very scattered showers and storms across the state, mainly focused in the NE parts of the state:

As we work into the late overnight/ early morning hours we are expecting a storm cluster to impact much of the state. Below is simulated upper level energy from 1 AM CT Wednesday morning. The darker reds are indicative of stronger upper level energy which is more support for precipitation. We see the darkest reds at the beginning of the loop (overnight to early morning hours), and in the central parts of the state. Note that as the energy works out of the state to the E, it weakens a little:

The majority of precip with this system looks to stay focused in the Central parts of the state. We think there can certainly be some severe threats with this cluster, the main concerns being damaging winds, lightning, hail, and heavy rainfall in a short period of time.  Here is simulated radar from 1 AM CT Wednesday morning until 7 PM CT Wednesday evening. The cluster will work its way W to E and should be in the eastern portion of the state by the late morning hours. Overall as we work into the afternoon and evening, any remnants of the cluster should weaken and be focused in E Nebraska. Overall, W and Central Nebraska should have a pretty dry day minus the morning hours :

High temperatures tomorrow look to be in the mid 70s for much of Nebraska:

Precipitation guidance out through 7 PM CT Wednesday evening. The overwhelming majority of this precip is going to come with this cluster overnight and into tomorrow. Thoughts from the AM update haven’t changed much as we are still favoring a good swath of 1 to 2+ inches with some places potentially in the 3+ inche range further E. This looks to be focused in the Central part of the state and move  in a W to E direction until we see a slight SE dive near SE Nebraska. The areas closer to the NE/SD and NE/KS borders certainly have lesser chances of seeing a good round of precip, but we can’t rule a shower or two sneaking further N and S that comes off the main cluster of storms:
