Today’s Video:
Good Tuesday morning everyone! Quiet morning across the area with just a few sprinkles in North Dakota. We will get a weak disturbance to push through into the late morning and early afternoon hours and brings light scattered rain into Northern North Dakota, possibly reaching far NW Minnesota:
Storms likely develop in the SW ND and Western South Dakota ~6/7 PM CDT this evening. This will slowly push off to the southeast overnight and a few storms could contain strong wind gusts and small hail. However, a widespread severe weather event does not appear to be likely.
These showers and storms will persist into Minnesota into tomorrow morning and a weak disturbance could bring some light rain showers into North Dakota tomorrow morning into mid-day.
Note, as we head into the mid-afternoon hours, re-developent is likely especially in SE SD and Southern Minnesota along the frontal boundary. These storms have a better chance at a few severe warnings with isolated large hail and strong wind gusts the primary threat. Most of these storms should push southeast of the area by the nighttime hours tomorrow.
Behind this front, a few light, very scattered rain showers are possible in NE Minnesota associated with the upper-level low, but the big story will be the cool weather behind the front and additional rain chances in SW SD the next several days. Overall, not seeing any more widespread rain risks during the work-week.
Here’s a look at those cool temperatures the next few days. Some cities in the Western Dakotas get into the 9os today before eastern portions of the area could remain in the upper 60s/low 70s on Thursday. Overnight lows will be near 50 degrees, possibly dipping into the 40s in lower-lying areas.

Here’s a look at 7 day total rainfall from the European model. Note, the GFS does have more rain a bit further north even into Southern Minnesota. At this time, we’re favoring the European model as the Canadian high pressure will have the tendency to push rain further south:
