7-23-18 Northern Plains: Overall quiet today… storm chances increase late tomorrow. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Monday morning everyone!

Overall, a quiet morning for most of the area. We could see some very scattered rain showers this afternoon in Eastern Minnesota, but it is generally going to be a nice day across the area before a better chance of storms builds late tomorrow.

Tomorrow will start off nice with a few isolated showers in South Dakota, but storms likely develop along a frontal boundary in the Western/Central Dakotas late tomorrow evening. A few storms could be strong with some isolated strong wind gusts or small hail. These will generally be somewhat scattered with the best chance for heavy rain/storms in SW South Dakota. By Wednesday morning the showers/storms will push into the Eastern/Southeast portion of the region and slowly weaken as we head into late Wednesday.

Northwest flow will develops for SW South Dakota and some rain chances are possible throughout the week. Worth noting that the long-range NAM is a bit further southwest with the rain out of the state, but global models have been consistent with rain chances in SW South Dakota much of this week, while the rest of the area is drier.

The latest GFS shows this very well over the next 7 days, with better light rain chances possible further north the second half of the weekend.

The last three days of the work week will be quite cool behind the frontal boundary that moves through tomorrow/Wednesday. Here’s a look at temperatures the next 4 days:
