7-19-18 Northern Plains: Targeting heavy rain with low pressure system today… drier to start the weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone! Rain continues to fall associated with a strong low pressure system this morning. This rain will persist throughout most of the day today with additional storm development possible in North Dakota this afternoon and evening:

Here’s a look at total rain over the next 12 hours. Favorable conditions for heavy rain near the center of the low is likely before it gets a bit more unorganized later today.

Rain continues overnight especially in Minnesota, but as the system weakens, showers will become more scattered with the main focus the Eastern half of Minnesota tomorrow for scattered rain. Here’s a look at the simulated radar and total rain for Friday.

Saturday looks like a drier day, but a warm front will start to push into the area late Saturday and allow for more storms to develop in the Western Dakotas. Can’t rule out some of these being strong, so stayed tuned to weekend updates as higher-resolution data starts to see this timeframe and gets a better handle on the potential.

This will warm things back up in the Western Dakotas for Sunday before the cold front starts to push in and produce more rain/storm risks Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Here’s a look at dew point over the next 4 days:
