6-8-19 Kansas/Nebraska: Severe weather + Flash Flood risk tonight. A.

Good Saturday evening! Here are your latest short-term forecast updates:

Showers are continuing to move slowly through central/northeast Nebraska causing locally heavy rainfall. The potential for severe storms will increase as we go into the evening and the mid-level winds strengthen. Storms are already beginning to pop up in northwest Kansas that are severe warned. The primary risk with these storms will be large hail and strong winds, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Here is the storm prediction center outlook for tonight:

Because these strong storms are moving through the area so slowly there is a good potential for local flash flooding to occur. Here is the previous 24 hour precipitation totals as these storms moved through western Nebraska where some areas got more than 3 inches:

This being said the majority of Nebraska and Kansas could get from 1-2″ tonight with totals of 3-4″ in a few regions if you get stuck under one of these storms. There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall in a large part of the region as highlighted in yellow below:
