Good Wednesday morning. Heavy rain fell overnight in Western South Dakota and rain is building in Southeastern South Dakota this morning. Here’s a look at the current radar:
Rain really begins to increase in coverage and intensity by 1 PM this afternoon with the heaviest rain continuing into tonight. Here’s a look at the simulated radar into tonight:
A strong low-level jet combined with anomalous moisture will allow for very heavy rain to train over the same locations as a low pressure system stalls out over the area. Rainfall amounts of 2-5″ of rain are likely with flash flooding and isolated amounts of 6″+.
Rains will start to lighten as we head towards dawn tomorrow and main focus likely becomes the southern third of Minnesota for light to moderate rain tomorrow with an additional 0.1″-0.5″ of accumulation possible. Rain starts to diminish in Southeast South Dakota in the early afternoon tomorrow.
