5-24-18 Northern Plains: Scattered strong storms possible tonight… notable heat building this weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone. We have rain showers continuing through Central Minnesota this morning:

Two lines of broken, scattered storms will likely develop later this afternoon and into the evening/overnight hours. Note, latest data did trend quite a bit weaker and slightly slower with this system, but I do think that the risk is there for scattered strong storms to develop with isolated strong wind gusts and hail.

I do think there is the risks for continuing showers into early tomorrow morning for Eastern/SE Minnesota due to a low level jet. As an upper-level disturbance swings through tomorrow, more scattered showers and storms can develop across the Eastern Dakotas and Minnesota in the afternoon:

However, the big story into the weekend will be the major heat that will build into the area. Mid-upper 90s possible on Sunday!

Southwest flow will build back in into next week and while some scattered storms are possible for the Western Dakotas late Saturday and Sunday, more widespread coverage will develop Monday and into mid-week as our next storm system develops to the west.
