4-9-19 Midwest Extreme Update: Latest info on major Plains blizzard mid-late week. N.

Midwest Extreme Video:

A massive April blizzard is set to impact the Plains and upper Midwest, not even one month removed from the historic blizzard that impacted many of these areas in mid-March.  A lot of these cities had one of the snowiest February’s on record….so this has been an incredibly snowy season.  Here is how much snow has stacked up since the beginning of the season:

This system will be significant because it will reach near to possibly all time strongest storm systems in this area on record for April, and will be very slow moving.  You further the ability to get major storm systems in early spring due to more warm air and moisture availability, and lingering significant cold air to the north.  The storm looks to develop tonight on the Colorado Front Range, and will be very slow to progress through the Plains into late week.  We measure the system’s strength by the forecast pressure readings.  The lower the pressure, the stronger the system.  The lowest pressure ever recorded in northwest Kansas for April is 977mb.  Some data suggests this storm gets even stronger than that, down to 975mb!  You can look at surface pressure compared to normal – and we reach the highest end of climatological extremes in regards to low pressure in Kansas.

Forecast radar through Thursday night….not this comes from a hi-res model which only goes out to 7pm CDT Thursday.  TIGHT packing of isobars = strong winds.  Isobars are lines of equal pressure – and the stronger the difference over a short distance, the stronger the wind.  The air comes rushing in to attempt in filling the void in pressure.

The winds are going to be very strong, producing blizzard conditions from Wednesday afternoon through Friday.  Gusts in the western Plains reach 55-65mph at their peak.

Check out the massive clashing of air masses with this system:

Here is our snowfall forecast for this event.

This storm brings flashbacks to 2018.  A similar type of system took shape at nearly the same date!!  Snows fell in nearly the same area they will fall with this storm.  However, we expect snowfall amounts to exceed last April’s event!

Let’s look at snowfall data for some cities in Nebraska that will be faced with 1 to 2 feet of snow, and how that compares to the snowiest April’s on record.   It’s not that we are saying April blizzards are that rare, but the amount of snow and the areal coverage of those very high totals are what make this one unique from many of the past April events.

What our service can provide you:

24/7 on-call meteorologist support:  This is the HUGE benefit of our service!!  Having your own personal meteorologists to contact 24/7 is key for sound business decisions whether it’s 3pm or 3am.  We alway have a meteorologist on duty to get in immediate touch with!  We truly enjoy communicating with our clients whether it’s a high-risk weather event or sunny and 75!  We can assist you in every weather situation Mother Nature can bring us. The goal of this is to make your job easier!   Stop stressing over a thunderstorm popping up on radar during your event.  Have us on-call to tell you what to expect throughout the event.

Accuracy:  We HAVE to do our very best to get every detail in a forecast correct.  Every member of our team has a keen knowledge of weather patterns in the Ohio Valley.  Each storm presents its own challenges.  We strive to get every detail in a forecast correct from snow and ice accumulations down to freezing drizzle and fog, and of course, severe storms.  We wouldn’t have a business if we didn’t hold ourselves accountable for getting the forecast correct.  Knowing the fine-details in the forecast can be the difference between making $5000 or losing $5000. The time has come to quit guessing which local television/radio/app forecast is correct and waiting to check the latest local television forecast.  This can take too much time and cause frustration.  Think of it this way, it would be wiser to spend $1500 now on a weather service like ours than to lose $50,000 later because you were trying to guess the outcome.

We can also set-up a Thor Guard lightning prediction system at your event.  This is better than most systems as this predicts conditions favorable for a lightning strike to alert you ahead of time, instead of other systems that alert you for a lightning strike that has already occurred.
