Good Tuesday morning everyone!
Moderate to heavy snow continues for portions of Eastern South Dakota and Southern Minnesota this morning. This snow will slowly work off to the east throughout the day today.
Snow likely exits South Dakota by the mid-afternoon hours and continues into Minnesota until around midnight tonight. Additional snow accumulations of 3-5″+ are possible for the southern third of Minnesota, with more light accumulations in Eastern South Dakota. Here’s a look at exit timing and additional snow accumulations:
Winds could gust 20-30 MPH throughout the afternoon causing visibility issues and blowing/drifting snow:
Temperatures will drop near or below zero for much of the area, and wind chills in the negative teens are possible tomorrow morning:
A few scattered snow showers are possible especially in Northern Minnesota tomorrow, but dry air will prevent much accumulation potential.
A more potent piece of energy could produce accumulating snow especially for North Dakota and Minnesota Thursday. Light snow showers could develop in South Dakota and Southern Minnesota in the morning before the heavier wave moves through late in the afternoon.
Additional snow chances are possible overnight Thursday into Friday for Southwest South Dakota. Models have been consistent with the idea of a potent system developing on Sunday. We will watch these chances closely over the next few days. Overall, a fairly active pattern remains in place for the region over the next week. Here’s a look at the total precipitation accumulation over the next 7 days:
