Today’s Video:
Good Wednesday morning everyone!
Overall, a quiet start to today with sunny skies likely until the early afternoon as a front begins to push into northern portions the area. Do want to note that Red Flag Warnings have been issued for a few counties in North Dakota and Minnesota due to temperatures getting into the 60s today with dry air and gusty winds elevating fire danger:
We do have risks of some scattered light rain showers beginning tonight and lingering into tomorrow as a cold front pushes through the area. As of now, these do not look to be widespread and areas that see the heavier showers will still only pick up 0.1″ at the most. Most likely stay dry or only see a trace of precipitation. Here’s a look at the simulated radar and accumulated precipitation with this system.
A bit of a weak disturbance will move through Thursday night into early Friday morning and produce rain and snow showers for far Northeast Minnesota. Wouldn’t rule out some brief grassy accumulation, but not expecting any big impacts from this wave.
High pressure moves in after this wave and creates dry conditions for the rest of the week. Temperatures will gradually warm and likely reach the 70s for much of the Western Dakotas Saturday with even warmer conditions likely for the entire area Sunday!
After today and early tomorrow, sunshine will be quite prominent with lingering clouds and moisture in Northeast Minnesota from tomorrow night’s disturbance.
Again, we do have gusty winds possible both ahead and along the front today into tonight. Some wind gusts of up to 40 MPH are possible as the front moves through the area tonight into tomorrow morning!
Overall, only expecting scattered light precipitation accumulations through Saturday especially in Northeast Minnesota, but most stay dry!
Moisture will begin to return Sunday into Monday as a system develops to the west. Disagreement remains about the placement of heavier precipitation, but scattered showers and storms throughout the Northern Plains will be more likely to start next week. Leaning towards the European solution at this point, thinking the GFS is a bit too far north with the rains. We’ll fine tune the details on this storm as we head throughout the week into next week. Overall, here’s an early look at early next week’s storm and precipitation totals over the next week:
