Good Sunday evening everyone!
The cold front has passed the area and we turn our attention to scattered snow showers and squalls that could develop overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Some of the wrap-around snow showers have already developed in portions of Illinois this evening. These will eventually weaken a bit and shift to the east overnight. Cannot rule out some light accumulations on grassy surfaces this evening into tonight in Northern Illinois, and perhaps a few slick spots especially on bridges and overpasses as temperatures drop below freezing tonight.
These snow showers will increase in coverage across Indiana overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Main coverage of snow showers and squalls in Illinois will be across northeastern portions of the state, but scattered snow in southern portions of the state are possible. Indiana likely sees very light and disorganized snow showers overnight tonight with heavier and more widespread bursts throughout the duration of tomorrow and even into Tuesday.
The main focus for the most consistent snow risks will be in the northern third of Indiana and especially in Northeast Indiana. This is the area to watch for some light snow accumulations on grassy surfaces tomorrow into Tuesday, but focusing on Monday evening/night for the greatest risk. Not expecting any real impacts to the roadways during the day tomorrow given above freezing temperatures and warm ground temperatures, but do want to watch out for some slick spots overnight Monday into Tuesday morning as temperatures drop below freezing. Main slick spots will likely be focused on bridges and overpasses. Northern Illinois will also be at play for some slick spots on bridges/overpasses on Monday night into Tuesday morning with scattered snow showers continuing.
We do want to watch out for some increased risks of snow squalls (with some heavier bursts and a quick coating on the grass) tomorrow afternoon in Southern Indiana. The snow squall parameter shows this risk very well:
Once again, impacts to pavement are not likely due to above freezing temperatures throughout the day tomorrow. However, temperatures do drop below freezing tomorrow night. As far as tonight, temperatures will slowly drop throughout the night, but coverage will not be very widespread and pavement will still be very warm, so not expecting many issues.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! Have a good evening!
