3-9-18 Central Plains Forecast: Rain/snow chances this weekend, dry next week! N.

Video:

Good Friday morning!  A narrow area of snow showers will continue to move across portions of Iowa this morning into the afternoon, mixing with some rain as temperatures warm.

Here is the forecast radar from 4am Saturday to 10am Sunday.  Pesky, light precipitation move into the region from west to east tonight, with a wintry mix possible across northeast Nebraska and western Iowa Saturday morning.  Most areas just see light showers Saturday afternoon.  We will watch another shortwave dive into the area Saturday night through Sunday.  This will bring the risk of wet snow from northeast Nebraska, and especially across central/eastern Iowa into northeast Missouri Saturday night through Sunday.

I wanted to show you the differences in the data regarding snow amounts….appears a band of wet snowfall may set up over northeast Nebraska, through Iowa, then across northeast Missouri.  A narrow swath of several inches cannot be ruled out.

Here is a look at total precipitation through the weekend.  Very little to no moisture over most of Kansas, then with the main moisture focused north and eastern half of the region.

Once we get past Sunday, the weather looks dry and dry quiet for much of next week!  Cool air will linger into mid-week, then a surge of spring warmth for the second half of the week.
