Good Tuesday morning everyone!
We’re watching light snow continue for the far Eastern Dakotas and the southern half of Minnesota this morning. This snow likely lingers into the afternoon hours today and produces some additional snow accumulations.
Overall, most areas could see an additional 0.5″ to 1″ (with isolated higher amounts) of snow accumulations through tonight in southern Minnesota and a piece of energy diving into the western Dakotas likely spawns new snow burst. These will be widely scattered, but could put down an 1″ of snow in heavier bursts. It appears Eastern North Dakota will have the best shot at this into tonight.
The good news is most will warm up above freezing today, which should help prevent additional accumulations on pavement so long as they are treated.
With just a bit of instability tomorrow, wouldn’t rule out some scattered snow showers and flurries continuing for tomorrow, but most likely stay dry and those that do see scattered snow will see intermittent sunshine as well. Overall, no impact is expected from these additional showers/flurries.
We”ll start to get much warmer air into the area on Wednesday as temperatures surge to the upper 40s and 50s for the southern half of South Dakota with everyone else reaching above freezing in the upper-30s.
The risk for dense fog is increasing for the Dakotas and low visibility is certainly possible and could cause travel issues on Thursday morning.
Winds increase late Thursday and into Friday as our next system develops to the west. Light rain/snow showers could start as early as Thursday night. Certainly an active weekend setting up with rain/snow/mixed precipitation all on the table Friday into Sunday. As of now, it looks like things could really ramp up Friday night into Saturday. We’ll keep a close eye on this system as it certainly has the potential to put down additional snow accumulations to the area.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great rest of your day!
