Synopsis: Good Friday morning! Wanted to make sure you all had an update in terms of when the lake effect snow winds down later this morning into early afternoon. Sunshine will start to work in the second half of the day today with peaks of sunshine possible on Saturday as well. The bigger story is later Saturday evening into Sunday as our next wave of accumulating snowfall looks to work in from the northwest to southeast. It’ll be a case where it won’t always be snowing, which is common with clipper systems, but an overall good blanket of snow (~2-4″) will be possible. Temps crash on the backside of the cold front into Sunday night, where a refreeze scenario is certainly on the table as well. We will update often on this, let us know if you have any questions, have a wonderful weekend! -Kirk
Today’s video:
Remaining snow accumulation through early afternoon before we lose the northwest fetch off of Lake Michigan:
Simulated radar guidance Saturday night into Sunday…right now current thinking is the main wave of snow showers starts working in between ~7-10pmEST Saturday night, with off and on snow showers throughout the day on Sunday ending with lake effect snow early Monday morning. This could speed up a few hours, so the timing isn’t 100% set in stone, we will need to continue to watch data and adjust accordingly. There will also be potential for pockets of heavier snow into Sunday morning as mentioned in the video:
Temps crash on the backside of the cold front as it moves east Sunday…this could bring a scenario of a refreeze Sunday night into Monday morning we need to monitor closely:
Latest thoughts on snowfall accumulation through Sunday night…the caveat here being it all depends on the coverage of the snow, but the best data we have right now suggests a solid 2-4″ with locally 3-5″ not being ruled out closer to the IN/MI border. We will likely have an official snowfall map out later this morning or in this afternoon’s update:
