Good Saturday afternoon.
We continue to watch the second piece of energy that will produce additional snow for central and northern Indiana this afternoon and into the evening. Here’s a look at the latest radar.
Here’s a look at the latest simulated radar. Note the heaviest banding is located in the northern third of the state. As of now it definitely looks like those areas will see the best shot at additional accumulations. Central Indiana will see snow, but lighter snow rates and marginal temperatures will make it difficult for snow to accumulate on pavements.
Snow is beginning now, and will likely exit the area by 10PM EST. The latest HRRR seems to have a good handle on the current evolution of this wave of snow in terms of precipitation and temperatures. Here’s it’s latest snowfall forecast:
A coating to a half inch on grassy surfaces for much of Central Indiana can’t be ruled out with northern areas seeing the higher end amounts and less further south. Overall, with temperatures lingering above freezing and lighter precipitation rates, most snow will not stick to the roadways. Here’s a look at current temperatures and trends over the next 15 hours.
However, note that temperatures quickly drop below freezing after snow exits. This will create issues with re-freezing of wet roads and pavements tonight. Given this, it would certainly be worth keeping an eye on and patrolling lots and roads late this evening and into tonight after snow exits.
