11-1-18 Northern Plains: Details on two rounds of accumulating snowfall through the weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone! We have very light rain showers working through the Dakotas this morning much of which is in the form of light freezing rain/drizzle where it can overcome low-level dry air:

Into the mid-day hours, the rain showers will continue to expand but change over to all rain and continue to push east. Into tonight, rain showers in Minnesota will see a changeover to some snow and persist into tomorrow with scattered rain continue to the south. This could allow for some light accumulations:

The next system will start to work in late Friday and bring another chance of rain and accumulating snow. This will bring a wider and heavier swath of snow given more frontal forcing. An area of 2-5″ of snow cannot be ruled out with lighter amounts in backside snow. As the storm system ramps up, rain is likely for South Dakota and Minnesota – perhaps some heavier rain in Eastern Minnesota. A changeover to snow in NE Minnesota is possible on Saturday night into Sunday with an additional risk for accumulating snowfall.
