10-25-19 Accumulating snowfall in the forecast as we target seasons 1st winter storm.
Video forecast today covers Tuesday winter storm potential. Halloween storm and the extended cold pattern that’s possible the next few weeks.
Focus turns to Mon night into Tues as season first winter storm moves into the area.
Latest computer model data from the ECMWF shows the system moving in Mon night after dark and exiting the region Tuesday ~10am. This can still adjust with placement and timing and likely will in the days ahead.
Using a 51 model ensemble probability shows us right now 50-75% of the member’s are saying atleast 1″ of snowfall is likely at this distance which is a solid signal overall esp. for the time of year.
We even have nearly 25 of the 51 computers suggesting over 3″ of snow is possible from Dubuque NE to Stevens Point by Tuesday 10am. Again this is a strong signal at this distance given its October still.
Temps will be cold enough Tuesday morning for snow to accumulate for a time esp. under heavier snowfall rates which are possible with this system. Also important to consider timing as its all falling overnight so it will be easy to overcome any warmer pavement temps. Temps will rise into the mid to upper 30s Tuesday however skies may remain cloudy with only filtered sunshine to aid in the clean up process. A lot of times models will keep the clouds around too long after a system departs so it wouldn’t shock me if we have more sunshine Tuesday after the storm exits to help with clean up. We will start issuing official snowfall forecasts come Sunday and will begin our text notification process also as confidence increases in the days ahead. As stated in the video wind will not be a major concern, also snow will be heavy and wet closer to a 9:1 ratio we believe. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out. -Michael.
These 10 day forecast charts are from the European weather model Dr Ryan Maue has developed. If you have any questions on how to read these just ask. You can see from top to bottom they show high temp/low temp/wind/6hr precip/rainfall accumulation/snowfall accumulation.
