*HIGH IMPACT EVENT LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… BE SURE TO WATCH THE VIDEO FOR IMPORTANT DETAILS*

Good Friday Afternoon!

Snow continues to fall for northern counties this afternoon. Here’s a look at the current radar:

Snow will continue into tomorrow and begin to diminish tomorrow afternoon between 1 and 4PM EST.

We are staying consistent with our forecast and see no reason to adjust at this time. We expect total accumulations from today and tomorrow to look like this:

The next storm will begin to move in on Sunday and it could create a wintry mess for much of the state. A first weak wave could move through and produce some snow and possibly a light dusting before the main wave moves in later on Sunday. Timing on this looks to be Sunday morning between 7 and 10AM EST for Northern INDOT districts.

Temperatures will still be very cold during this first wave, easily cold enough to support all snow.

The second wave looks to enter the area around 7PM EST on Sunday night and should be east of most counties by mid-day on Monday.

The storm will draw in warmer air to the mid-levels but some cold air will stay trapped near the surface. We believe that this event could produce a classic freezing rain event for areas especially along I-70. Ground temperatures will not be able to reach freezing regardless of air temperature given the long streak of well below freezing temperatures the area has seen. However, we believe that air temperatures will stay below freezing throughout the majority of this event for the Northern INDOT districts. The temperature profile looks to be cold enough to support mostly snow but it is likely that freezing rain will mix in at times.

Snow accumulations will be light but will be highly dependent on the amount of mixed precipitation that occurs. We should get a better idea of this balance as we approach the event and can analyze higher resolution models. Total precipitation looks to be around a quarter of an inch for most areas in the northern INDOT district by Monday evening.

We will keep a close eye on this weekend system and update with the latest data and trends throughout the weekend. If you have any questions, be sure to contact us! Have a great Friday.
