1-27-18 Indiana Update: Watching the potential for fog in areas overnight. B.

Video (4:00)

Good Saturday morning!

Moderate to heavy rain is falling across much of the state this morning. Here’s a look at the latest radar.

These showers should move off to the east and southeast later this evening. We should see the rain end in the Indy Metro around 4PM, with most of the state seeing rain gone by 7PM.

However, we are watching the potential for fog to form and even frost tonight as temperatures could drop below freezing in some areas. Here’s a look at the forecasted temperatures from the latest hi-res NAM into tomorrow morning.

As you can see, many areas could drop below freezing especially in the central and southern portions of the state where we are seeing the greatest potential for frost and fog. The latest dew points and temperature do support a shallow layer of fog near the surface. The winds will also be calm across much of the state, further supporting this idea.

We will also clear out for much of the state, but notice, the model is picking up on that fog potential in the central and southern portion of the state.

With all this in mind, here is the area we’re most concerned about frost and fog development. Note also, the model is depicting very low visibilities early tomorrow in this area.

There is multiple-model support for this. We will need to watch out for slick spots in the morning with the layer of fog and below freezing temperatures supportive of some frost.

We are watching the potential for snow showers late tomorrow into Monday for much of the state, we will update on this potential throughout the weekend.

Have a great weekend!
