Good Monday morning!
We are continuing to track the blizzard that is working it’s way across portions of the Northern Plains today. Here is a look at the current radar. Heavy snow bands in Southern Minnesota and extreme Southeast South Dakota are fairly stagnant at this time. This will allow for snow to accumulate very quickly over the next few hours.
If you take a look at the simulated radar through tomorrow morning, you can see heavy snow bands linger in Southeast South Dakota and Southern Minnesota into this evening. Snow will likely end for South Dakota late this evening but snow looks to continue for portions of Minnesota into early tomorrow morning.
The latest HRRR is picking up on the heavy bands of snow that have set up over portions of the region. It seems to have a good handle on the potential snowfall totals and placement over the next 18 hours. Note, it is still snowing in parts of Minnesota at this time:
This matches up nicely with our snow map from yesterday.
Here’s a look at the RPM’s storm total snow accumulation forecast. It has a good handle on placement, but is a bit robust. However, with the banding and current model data, we wouldn’t rule out some totals higher than 15″.
Blizzard warnings will be in effect until midnight tonight due to the gusty winds that have arrived along with the heavy snowfall. Here’s a look at the forecasted wind gusts into tomorrow morning.
Visibility issues and blowing snow are likely into the morning, but snow should diminish across the area by that time.
There is a weak clipper system that could drop some scattered light snow to portions of North Dakota and Minnesota Wednesday night. We won’t see much sunshine over the next few days due to these systems.
After these systems, we have a fairly quiet and mild week, but we’re going to watch a weak system that could move through portions of the area on Friday/Saturday. Here’s a look at the week 1 temperature departure forecast:
Hope you have a great rest of your day!
