04-25-19 Northern Plains: Cold and active pattern ahead. MG.

Showers in the southeast edge of the northern plains continue pushing out of the area giving way to seasonal yet breezy conditions for today and tomorrow.  The next system arrives in the Dakotas Friday night bringing widespread rain and possible snow chances into the weekend.  Active periods of weather can be expected for next week bringing with it several rain/ snow chances and colder weather spells as well.

Total precipitation over the next 10 days:

Here below are our thoughts on snow depth amounts on Saturday.  These values seem reasonable given air temperature above freezing, high April sun angle, and compaction.  In general, we think there may be widespread amounts of 2-5 inches.  

The image below shows the greatest risk of accumulating snowfall are in southeast Minnesota and northwestern South Dakota/ southwestern North Dakota.
