Key Points – Tuesday, May 2, 2017:
Synopsis: Active pattern once again for Kansas and Missouri this week with heavy rainfall and even flash flooding possible…however, we do see some encouraging signs for the central Plains for conditions to improve as we get into the weekend where we warm-up. Briefly looking at the weeks 3/4 pattern though, we see a look more suggestive of active and cooler for the central Plains which is consistent with our official May outlook. Have a great day!
Current Radar:
Off-and-on showers today across southern Nebraska and Kansas today:
Continuing to watch for heavy rainfall by Wednesday morning across portions of Kansas into Western Missouri on the day Wednesday into the day on Thursday before moving east into the Midwest. The northern tier of Zone 8 doesn’t such much in the way of rainfall and stays fairly dry.
Latest thoughts on total rainfall…2-3″ possible across eastern Kansas into the southern half of Missouri…wouldn’t be shocked to see isolated higher amounts especially across Missouri 4″+.
An excessive rainfall risk for flash flooding Tuesday through Thursday focused across eastern Kansas into the southern half of Missouri.
We warm up in a big way this coming weekend into early next week with temps in the 70s and even 80s…this will likely help conditions to continue to improve especially across Nebraska, western Iowa, Kansas and western Missouri.
Looking even further out, we are seeing a potential revert back to active and cool across the central Plains…can’t rule out some severe weather as well getting deeper into May. More in the long-range today!
Confidence and Risk:
- Average risk for spotty showers to continue across Nebraska and Kansas today.
- Above average confidence heavy rains work across the southern/eastern half of Kansas into the southern half of Missouri Tuesday through Thursday.
- Average risk for flash flooding in these same areas.
- Average but increase confidence of a big-time weekend warm-up across the central Plains getting into the 70s and even 80s by early next week.
