Video (5 min):

Good Thursday morning!  Areas across north central/northwest Kansas and far southwest Nebraska seeing light snow this morning.  Here is 2 hour radar loop ending at 8:45 AM CT:

Latest guidance continues to show light snowfall across northwest Kansas into early afternoon, as a pulse of energy interacts with an arctic front.  Arctic high pressure building in will allow any snow to end later today.   Forecast radar from 8am CT to 5pm CT shown below:

A disturbance will move through portions of Iowa on Friday with a swath of light snow possible across central Iowa during the afternoon along a warm front.  Forecast radar 9am Friday to 6am CT Saturday shown below:

Models vary on exact placement of this wave, but generally it appears somewhere across central Iowa may see a narrow swath of 1″ snow Friday afternoon.

Saturday will be a milder day with much of the central Plains above normal.  A disturbance looks to track across the northern Plains, with only spotty areas of rain/snow in most of the area.  Better chances for snow will move into the northern half of the area Saturday night and Sunday, as an arctic front moves south into the area with a couple disturbances tracking along the front:

Best chances to pick up accumulations will be across Iowa and Nebraska…data overall trending lighter on snow amounts (more specifics on amounts tomorrow).  Watching another storm system showing up for Monday and Tuesday which may bring additional wintry weather to the region.

Latest drought monitor continues to show areas of moderate/severe drought over Kansas & Missouri, even extreme drought in far southwest Kansas.
