Good morning everyone! There are some lingering light showers across central and eastern KS as well as far southern IA as of 8:05am CDT. These areas of showers will likely continue through the day, though they will decrease in coverage as the day progresses.
Another weak disturbance will progress into western NE this evening into tonight, bringing scattered showers and storms to this region. Coverage won’t be too impressive with storms likely being spotty at best.
Simulated radar through 7am CDT Sunday: Areas of showers will persist across southern/southeastern IA, far southeastern NE and into KS through the day today. This activity should scoot east out of the area overnight tonight. The weak disturbance previously mentioned will work into western NE and possibly even far northwestern KS this evening and tonight. Some isolated showers and maybe a storm is possible out ahead of this disturbance across central NE into western/central KS during the overnight hours. This disturbance will gradually weaken as it pushes eastward and with the low-level jet weakening as well, most activity should fade Sunday morning.
There will still be some energy attached to this disturbance as it works eastward, so we can’t rule out isolated showers across NE Sunday and possibly western IA Sunday evening. Additional storms will fire in CO late Sunday afternoon and evening, possibly clipping far western KS during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday. Elsewhere should remain dry with isolated storm chances across northern NE overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Simulated radar from 7am CDT Sunday through 7am CDT Monday:
Rainfall forecast through 12am CDT tonight: An additional trace to 0.25″ of rain is possible in KS, far southeastern NE, and far southern IA as we work out the light shower activity in association with the remnants of Gordon. Storms across western NE can bring a quick 0.25-0.75″ of rain but these will be spotty. Most areas stay dry Sunday with the exceptions being far western KS and northern NE.
Rainfall over the next seven days: Beyond Sunday, a mainly dry stretch coming across the Central Plains next week.
High temperatures over the next four days:
Low temperatures over the next four days: There is a frost risk across IA as low temperatures dip into the 40s and possibly even the 30s in isolated locations Sunday and Monday morning. Temperatures will warm beyond Monday morning.
