Today’s video:
Observed rainfall over the past 24 hours is below…verifying our sliver of locally heavier rainfall from Grand Forks to Grand Rapids and points east this morning:
Here’s our favored guidance for remaining rainfall through the rest of the day today…focused primarily across eastern and northeastern MN at ~0.1-0.5″ with a few spots getting locally higher where the remaining strong storms pushing east continue to move:
One of our more active, widespread rainfall periods of the summer will make a re-emergence comes this weekend and continue next week. Here’s a look at the European model simulated precipitation guidance in this period, showing the rain working in west to east Saturday across the Dakotas, pushing southeast later Saturday into Sunday morning. The bigger wave comes Monday afternoon into Tuesday from west to east, bringing locally heavy rainfall and isolated strong storms possible with this as well:
As discussed in the video, a stronger storm system is showing in the latter portion of next week, poised to bring more drenching rains to the area (likely the heaviest of the 3 rainfall waves targeted over the next 10 days). Total rainfall guidance over the next 7 days is below, not far off much really at all from what we showed in our forecast yesterday morning. With the first 2 waves of rain combined, we anticipate widespread rainfall especially focused across the Dakotas at ~0.5-1.5″ (locally higher on the table as well of 1.5-3″ in spots)…with a good portion of Minnesota being susceptible to 0.25-0.75″ (locally higher amounts as well are possible of 0.75-1.5″ in spots):
When adding the 3rd and stronger wave of rain late next week, these forecast rain totals out to 10 days are quite heavy.
