Today’s Video:
Good morning everyone! A lighter swath of rain is currently working through northern NE and western IA as of 7:35am CDT. This disturbance will track west to east through the day, continuing rain chances across northern NE and additional portions of IA.
Simulated radar through 1pm CDT Sunday: Shower risks continue in the northern half of NE into IA during the day today, gradually lifting out as the day progresses. Light shower risks will sink southward into KS this afternoon and persisting into the nighttime hours. During the day Saturday, the warm front associated with these rains will gradually lift back northward again, impacting other locations such as northwestern MO, eastern NE and into IA. Saturday night into Sunday, this wave will push northward with areas of drizzle and low clouds continuing across NE, IA and northern KS with warmer, drier weather (mix of sun and clouds) more likely further south.
Total rainfall over the next 60 hours: In general, we are expecting 0.1-0.5″ of rain across NE, southern IA, KS and northern MO. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially in portions of KS where data is hinting at 0.5″+.
Total rainfall over the next 7 days via the European Model: Another disturbance will work into the northern areas Sunday night into Monday with the possibility of some strong storms across IA Monday afternoon as instability builds. Activity wanes Tuesday and Wednesday before an uptick occurs late work week with more active flow. The highest rain risks will be positioned across IA where 2-4″ of rain is possible. Lower totals are expected further south.
High temperatures over the next four days: A nearly stationary boundary will set up across the region through the weekend with much cooler weather north of this boundary. To the south of the boundary, temperatures in the 70s and 80s will be prevalent.
Low temperatures over the next four days: Frost and freeze risks are on the table across NE and especially IA Saturday morning.
Frost Advisories are in effect across north-central and northeastern IA tonight into Saturday morning.
Dew point temperatures over the next four days: Humidity will be substantially (lower/higher) (north/south) of the boundary positioned across the region.
Wind guidance over the next four days:
Here are the temperature charts over the next 10 days for Des Moines, Lincoln, Salina and Columbia: Notice there will be large temperature fluctuations over the next 7 days, especially northern areas.
