9-22-18 IA/NE/KS Saturday Update: Calm weather with plentiful sunshine to persist through the weekend. I.

Good morning everyone! If you glanced outside your window this morning you’ll likely notice a large expanse of sunshine with virtually no clouds in the area as of 9:40am CDT. This will be the theme for the weekend with plentiful sunshine and only isolated shower/storm chances across northwestern NE heading into Sunday evening.

Here’s a brief synopsis of what to expect through the day today: Virtually no cloud cover will be found across NE, IA and KS today as a lack of boundaries and energy will lead to the high unlikelihood of any rain. This will definitely be great weather to get out and work on the fields or do any extracurricular activities. A few afternoon clouds are possible across eastern IA/extreme southeastern KS but once again no rain is expected. There will be a few pop-ups in eastern CO that may clip far western KS this evening, but this remains unlikely.

The calmer/quieter weather will persist into Sunday for the vast majority of the area. Loads of sunshine can be expected across the region as a lack of energy will remain (with the exception being northwestern NE). It won’t be until Sunday evening that we work in isolated shower/storm risks to northwestern NE and this chance will persist through the night into Monday morning.

Here’s a look at 7-day rainfall from the European Model: Heavy rains aren’t expected across NE, IA and KS during this timeframe with only scattered rain chances more likely.

High temperatures over the next four days: Elevated high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s can be expected across the Western Plains through the weekend with 60s and 70s more likely further east.

Low temperatures over the next four days: There are some patchy frost risks across IA tonight.

Dew point temperatures over the next four days: Drier air will remain across the area until more humid air lifts northward Sunday and especially Monday across IA, eastern NE and central/eastern KS.

Wind guidance over the next four days: With some gusty winds in the High Plains and lower relative humidities, there is an elevated threat for fire danger across the NE panhandle today and especially Sunday.

High/low temperatures over the next 15 days for Des Moines, Lincoln, Salina, and North Platte: Please not that this is an ensemble which averages/smoothes these numbers.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great weekend!
