9-14-18 Central Plains: Hot/dry weekend….increasing rain risks next week. N.

Video:

Quiet weather continues through the weekend outside of a couple spotty showers.  The main focus is on the set-up next week.  A front will set up in far northern portions of the area during the middle of next week providing a focus for rounds of showers and storms, especially along Nebraska/South Dakota and Iowa/Minnesota borders.  Areas to the south remain mainly dry underneath a ridge of high pressure setting up across the southern Plains.  As we get into late next week, the front will finally get a push to the south bringing some scattered rain/storm risks south and east from Thursday through Friday.

Rainfall outlook through 7am next Friday shown below.  Far northern areas could see several rounds of rain next week leading to heavier amounts.  Further south, we remain relatively dry until the front moves through late week, but won’t produce as much rain.  We’ll have to fine-tune exact placement over the coming days.

Looking at the end of the month, we do have an above normal rain forecast across the area.
