9-10-18 Northern Plains: Active week ahead… tracking showers/storms this morning. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Monday morning everyone! We do have an area of storms pushing through NE Minnesota this morning — these will continue to push to the east and eventually weaken into mid-day. Storms pushing SE in Central SD have a history of producing hail, but are not severe warned at this time. These likely continue to dive ESE throughout the morning:

Here’s a look at the simulated radar into Tuesday evening. Cannot rule out a few elevated storms both tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening especially in Northern areas with isolated large hail and gusty winds possible in storms. Also want to mention the risk of a few scattered storms this afternoon especially in South Dakota and with some instability cannot rule out an isolated strong storm with large hail. Here’s a look at rainfall into through Tuesday night:

Scattered rain along the frontal boundary continues tomorrow night and into Wednesday with storms eventually pushing north Wednesday afternoon. Again, cannot rule out a few storms with strong winds and large hail.

A stationary boundary will setup shop over the area throughout the week. Along the boundary numerous shower and storm risks will be present especially in the North-Central portion of the area. Here’s a look at the simulated radar from late Wednesday through the weekend with the front finally sagging south Sunday.

A strong south wind will develop beginning tomorrow with some data suggesting wind gusts up to 50 MPH in SW Minnesota and Eastern SD late tomorrow and Wednesday night. Models are likely a tad overdone, but keep in mind localized pockets of wind gusts to 40/45 MPH cannot be ruled out.

As mentioned, the rain risks for the week will come along the thermal gradient with warmth in the Southern portions of the Northern Plains and some cooler risks further north:

Here’s a look at dew points over the next 4 days:

Here’s a look at 7-day rainfall from the European model:

Here’s a look at city charts for Pierre, Minot, Fargo and Minneapolis over the next 10 days:
