8-9-18 Central Plains Forecast: Few hit/miss storms today….dry set-up for many through the weekend….lower confidence next week. N.

Video:

Today’s forecast across the area: Upper-level low spinning across Arkansas will enhance scattered storm risks across southeast Missouri today, with very hit and miss storms bubbling up with the daytime heat elsewhere mainly across the eastern half of Kansas.

Forecast radar from 2-8pm CDT shows the pop-up storms during this time-frame.

With a weak flow aloft and plentiful moisture, cannot rule out a very localized heavy rain threat where these storms set-up today.  Your highest risk across southeast Missouri.  Here is the total rainfall forecast out through 7am CDT Friday.  This won’t be exact, but picks up on the very hit/miss nature of storms.

A weak boundary looks to focus scattered storms across portions of central Missouri Friday into perhaps eastern Kansas.  Mainly in the 2pm-9pm CDT window.

Rainfall totals from 7am Friday to 7am Saturday shown below.  Certainly going to be a limited area of storms, but where they do set-up a local heavy rain threat is possible given ample moisture levels and a weak steering flow aloft.

Be sure to watch the video for details on next week’s lower confidence forecast, all centering around what happens to the upper low over Texas this weekend.  This will bring increasing rainfall risks to southern portions of the area next week.  The big question is the northward extent.
