Good Saturday afternoon!
Here is a look at the latest radar image, we are seeing some very light rains finally exiting the state the southern part of SD and the northeast tip of ND:
24 hour radar derived rainfall shows that the majority of rain in the past 24 hours has fallen in SE SD with a good swath of 0.75 to 1.5+ inches of rain. The rest of the state saw a general 0.1 to 0.5 inches of rain:
North Dakota only saw a thin band of precip in far S ND that left 0.25 to 0.5 inches of rain:
A look at favored simulated radar from 1 PM CT today until 11 PM CT this evening. We are expecting our current area of precip in SE SD to continue to work its way E leaving behind very widely isolated leftover showers. Overall we think the rest of the state stays dry the rest of the day. North Dakota is also looking to stay dry with only some very very isolated showers in the southern part of the state:
Highs today look to be in the upper 50s/ low 60s for the E quarter of the SD and slowly warming as you go West before seeing mid to upper 70s in W SD. The temps in E SD are much cooler due to the precip and more cloud cover as we gradually clear out in W SD. ND looks to see low to mid 70s across the state as we do not have that precip hindering high temps:
Going into the overnight and early AM hours we are watching for a very isolated round of possible showers and storms to work into SE SD. This is associated with a small upper level disturbance that could bring more precip. This looks to be more on the scattered side of things and at this time does not look like an “equal opportunity” rain. Here is simulated radar from 11 PM CT Sat evening until 7 AM CT Sun morning. There could be a light shower/storm to sneak into far SE ND, but this is not expected to be anything significant:
Tomorrow looks to be an overall dry day with much of the Northern Plains as a whole looking to stay on the drier side of things. Below is a snapshot of sim radar at 3 PM CT tomorrow:
Precip totals out through 7 PM CT Sun evening. We think this model generally aligns with our thinking on precip for the next 30 hours. The overwhelming majority of the states will stay dry for the rest of the day today and tomorrow, the one exception being E/SE SD as we see some leftover showers from our area of rain this morning, and then again overnight into Sunday AM with our small upper level disturbance. SE ND may see a very isolated shower, but again this is not expected to accumulate to much, if anything. Again, this looks to stay on the scattered rain and totals will not be equally spread out:
