Video:
Good Friday morning! Here is today’s forecast across the area. Going to be a hot one with scattered storm risks across the western Plains developing later this afternoon into tonight. The yellow circled area is where the chance is highest. Cannot rule out a few severe storms capable of producing strong winds and hail (esp. the further north you are within this line).
Forecast radar shows the storms really start to develop from 4pm onward pushing across western Kansas and central Nebraska through the evening.
Forecast radar from 4am Saturday to 1pm CDT Sunday shown below. This disturbance will shift northeast and bring highest rain chances across central Iowa on Saturday, then additional scattered would be possible across northern Nebraska Saturday night as some additional energy moves through.
Rainfall over the next 60 hours:
As mentioned in the video, we need to watch late Sunday into Monday for the possibility of more widespread showers and storms to set-up across Nebraska and Iowa north of I-80. Some areas in the circled area below will pick up 1-2″ of rain from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning.
Watch the video for more information on the rain chances, but here is a look at rainfall through the next week. Beyond Tuesday, rain risks become limited for most areas. Certainly the northern areas have the highest threat for a soaking rain, with areas that REALLY need rain in central/southern Iowa being a tough call. I think rain distribution across Kansas/Missouri is more hit and miss and not as heavy.
