8-29-18 Northern Plains: Quiet weather today… increase in strong storm risks Friday. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone! A cool and quiet morning for most of the area with a few spots of patchy fog. With high pressure just to the south, conditions likely remain quiet with some high clouds at times and temperatures warming into the upper 60s and 70s!

As this high pressure starts to push east a south wind will develop and pump warmer temperatures back into the Dakotas tomorrow with some 90s not off the table. Cannot rule out an isolated storm in Eastern SD tomorrow afternoon, but most stay dry.

Overnight tomorrow, energy will spawn some scattered light to moderate rain showers and push ENE into Friday morning:

The better chance for storms will develop as we work into Friday afternoon and evening. Ingredients likely develop that support storms breaking out late in the day on Friday that could produce large hail and strong winds gusts as well as isolated tornadoes near the warm front in Central Minnesota. As a cold front starts to push through late Friday night, we likely see a line of storms start to develop and push south as a low-level jet cranks up and allows for the risk for damaging wind gusts with the line of storms that pushes through the southern half of Minnesota and far Eastern SD.
