Today’s Video:
Good Friday morning everyone! Active start to the day with rain and storms wrapping around an upper-level low in the Eastern Dakotas and into much of Minnesota:
The storms and showers in East-Central Minnesota will continue to push to the ENE and the rain wrapping around the low tracking through SE ND will continue to push off to the SSW around the low this morning. Here’s a look at the simulated radar into 1PM this afternoon:
I do think the rain becomes more scattered that is wrapped around the low but additional development in Eastern SD, Western MN and Southern Minnesota looks likely this afternoon:
Again, some more re-development especially in Southern Minnesota is likely this afternoon with a few strong to severe storms not off the table with hail the primary threat. Isolated damaging wind gusts and an a isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Here’s a look at the radar from 4PM this afternoon to 1AM tonight:
Activity should start to weaken late today into the overnight hours but another piece of energy starts to work into the area late tonight and into tomorrow with scattered showers likely in North Dakota and eventually into NW Minnesota tomorrow afternoon:
As we work into Sunday morning, more activity builds in Eastern South Dakota and Southern Minnesota with more widespread coverage:
Note the storm cluster that develops in NW North Dakota mid-day Sunday could put down some decent rain and more storms likely develop near the border of ND/SD into South Dakota where strong to severe storms are not off the table Sunday afternoon and evening with large hail and damaging winds the main threat.
The activity likely starts to shift further south late Monday and into Tuesday before the front clears completely into Wednesday. Here’s a look at the 7 day rainfall totals from the European model:
