Afternoon Video:
Good afternoon everyone! We are still tracking a substantial swath of moderate rain with embedded storms trekking eastward across far eastern KS and western MO as of 12:55pm CDT. We expect over the duration of the afternoon, this area of convection will slowly degrade across central/southern MO as it progresses into a more stable/drier environment. A few remaining showers may reach southeast MO this evening.
Here’s an updated Severe Weather Outlook for today: Scattered thunderstorms, at times strong to perhaps severe, are still expected across portions of the area this evening into the early overnight. Storms may contain large hail and damaging winds with an isolated tornado or two not out of the question.
Behind this morning’s convection, we are watching east-central KS for the development of additional scattered strong storms this evening into the early nighttime hours as destabilization of the atmosphere is likely about to occur or is occurring in some locations. These storms will push through northern MO into far southern/southeastern IA during the nighttime hours. A few isolated showers/storms may hang back across southeast KS tonight. By early afternoon Friday, this complex of storms will be lifting out of the Central Plains allowing for the atmosphere to recover and spark scattered strong storms late Friday evening, this time in eastern IA and northeast MO. This area will push out of the area Saturday morning. NAM3km simulated radar through 7am CDT Saturday is shown below.
Total rainfall through 7am CDT Saturday: Heavy rains are a concern as well tonight, especially across northeastern/eastern MO and far southeastern IA. 1-2″ of rain with locally higher amounts are possible in these areas. Please note that a large portion of the rains shown below in eastern KS have already fallen.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great rest of your day!
