Good Wednesday morning everyone! Plentiful sunshine is draped across a vast majority of the Northern Plains as of 9:30am CDT. A few upper-level clouds can be noted across western SD
Quiet day today will give way to development of rain and storms tomorrow. Initially we could see some showers and storms in the Western Dakotas before activity really picks up along the border of Central ND/SD later in the afternoon with a strong to severe storm threat in Central-Eastern South Dakota. Here’s a look at the radar into Friday morning:
Primary risks will be hail and damaging winds with some of the stronger storms, however a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
A strong low-level jet will aid in moderate to heavy rainfall potential overnight Thursday in Minnesota. Here’s a look at total rainfall into Friday morning:
A weak wave could lead to some scattered rain on Saturday with better chances developing late Sunday into Monday with a system moving through North Dakota and Northern Minnesota. This active pattern will persist into next week. Here’s a look at 7 day rainfall from the European model:
Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Temperatures today will remain quite pleasant over the Northern Plains. Highs will range from mid-70s for most to the mid-80s along the MN/ND border. Overnight lows heading into Thursday morning will easily dip into the 50s and 40s in spots with the drier air. More 80s can be expected in the coming days, especially in the Dakotas, before the cold front sweeps through Saturday and drops temperatures once again.
