8-2-19 Northern Plains: Pesky showers/local heavy rain for some into this evening…quieter Saturday…cold front brings a scattered storm chance early next week. N.

Today’s video:

Observed rainfall over the past 24 hours is below…very splotchy, where areas received rain generally it ranged between 0.25-0.75″…but definitely were localized spots that saw up to 2-3″ locally across the western Dakotas and near the ND/SD/MN borders it was locally 1-2″ as well with rain currently on-going still:

Here’s our favored simulated radar guidance today into tonight for the region, seeing continued locally heavy showers and storms especially across northeast South Dakota to areas near Pierre…the rainfall across north-central MN should become more isolated in nature and still a dry day as a whole for both ND and MN:

Favored rainfall totals through Saturday morning where localized 2-3″+ possible especially from Pierre to Aberdeen, SD to ~Fergus Falls, MN…otherwise we think rainfall ranges around 0.5-1″. Again, most of MN and ND stay dry here:

Total rainfall guidance Saturday through Tuesday is below using the European model…favoring a generalized 0.25-0.75″ additionally scattered throughout central ND/SD locations…and where we see isolated showers in MN they likely range 0.1-0.5″:
