8-19-19 Northern Plains: Targeting a scattered storm risk tonight-Tuesday….quiet pattern for mid-week. N.

Today’s video:

Observed rainfall over the past 3 days is below…with eastern SD to Minnesota seeing widespread 0.50-1.50″+

Today as a whole is very lackluster widespread from the Dakotas to Minnesota in terms of rainfall chances…however, getting into after midnight tonight to predawn Tuesday morning we see storms develop around Sioux Falls to Worthington bringing potential for areas near Sioux Falls and SW Minnesota for locally heavy rainfall and damaging winds – this will become much stronger as it works across Iowa.  Also, from Devil’s Lake, ND to Fargo and the northern half of Minnesota will see another round of showers and storms along a boundary working west to east Tuesday morning into afternoon…a few strong storms can’t be ruled out as well:

Total rainfall through noon Tuesday is below: Areas around Sioux Falls at risk for pockets of 0.50″-1.50″ underneath those storms tonight, as well as the area near Worthington.  We also anticipate more widespread rains to impact north-central Minnesota, while areas around Rochester and Minneapolis are looking to be largely spared.

Both Wednesday and Thursday looking quiet again across the entire forecast area. Now for the Dakotas our rain chances go up quiet a bit late Thursday night into the day on Friday from west to east…scattered light to moderate showers are expected:

Minnesota picks up increased rainfall chances on Saturday, while eyeing another potent storm cluster threat possible Sunday morning throughout the day on Sunday across the Dakotas to eastern Nebraska. Total rainfall through the weekend (not including the short-term rainfall potential) is below:
