7-7-18 Northern Plains Evening Update: Strong storms set to develop late this evening into the overnight across portions of the area. I.

Good Saturday evening! This will be a short update regarding tonight’s severe weather threat. A couple showers and storms have developed in northeast WY with decent model agreement that these storms develop further and push northeast into western SD between 6-7pm CDT before weakening across west-central SD late this evening. A strong cap on the atmosphere will keep elsewhere across SD mostly dry tonight. The cap will erode across central/eastern ND into northwestern MN where strong storms are expected to fire along the cold front between 7-9pm CDT and push east during the overnight and morning hours into northern MN while gradually weakening. Locally heavy rainfall is possible across eastern ND/northwestern MN as the flow will be nearly parallel to the cold front, leading to training thunderstorms. Leftover showers and embedded thunderstorms are possible across ND Sunday morning. Simulated radar through 1pm CDT Sunday:
