7-5-18 KS/MO/NE PM Update: Scattered storms possible across portions of the area through Friday. I.

Good Thursday afternoon! Radar as of 1:45pm CDT remains quite inactive across a majority of the region with some exceptions being northeast MO and portions of northeast-central KS. This activity is associated with a cold front and will generally drift southeastward through the afternoon and early evening.

Simulated radar through midnight Friday into Saturday. The cold front positioned across the northern portions of KS and MO will slowly drift south with time while initiating isolated to scattered thunderstorms along and south of it through the evening. A majority of the showers and storms will remain confined to northeastern MO through early evening before diminishing as we lose daytime heating with a secondary area across far western KS late tonight. In-between some isolated showers and storms are possible across western MO into central KS as well as far western NE. While widespread severe weather is not expected, I can’t rule out some hail and gusty winds within both of the main areas. Due to weak winds aloft these storms in far western KS will be slow moving in nature with locally heavy rainfall possible. Heading into the morning hours, showers and storms are still possible across west-central KS with more flare-ups of showers and storms in the area Friday afternoon and evening before fading overnight into Saturday.

Many areas across the region stay mostly dry through tomorrow evening with some notable exceptions including western/central KS into northern MO. Widespread heavy rains in these regions are unlikely but I can’t rule out some spots receiving over an inch of rain in the heaviest storms.
