7-29-18 Northern Plains Sunday Update: Storm chances continue across the area today with lower risks tomorrow…cooler weather persists through Monday. I.

Good Sunday morning everyone! It’s another beautiful start to the day across portions of region with sunny skies in eastern/northern ND, northeast SD, into most of MN. A couple small pockets of showers/storms exist just west of Bismarck, ND and another in western ND. Over the next few hours the batch of rain in western ND will slowly move southeastward.

Simulated radar through 12am CDT Monday: The batch of rain previously discussed will become a part of the isolated to widely scattered showers and storms that develop across the region after 12pm CDT this afternoon. A slightly more organized area of storms will develop in southwest SD between 12-2pm CDT that pushes southeast through the remainder of the afternoon, exiting the region by 7pm CDT this evening. This area of storms has the potential to be strong and perhaps severe during this time with some storms containing gusty winds, hail, and/or an isolated tornado. Storms will diminish around sunset this evening as instability decreases with the loss of daytime heating.

Simulated radar from 12am CDT through 7pm CDT Monday: More pop-ups are expected in southern SD into portions of MN Monday afternoon before these showers/storms die around sunset as well.

Total rainfall through 7am CDT Monday: The best chance for rains will be for locations in southwest SD. Elsewhere, isolated to widely scattered showers/storms are expected across the region. Many areas outside of the circle will stay dry as these will be hit or miss rains.

Total rainfall through the next 7 days depicts little rain over portions of ND and northern SD thanks to high pressure at times this week. Tuesday will largely remain dry with the next chance of rain impacting the eastern areas Wednesday. Areas with the best chance of picking up rain currently reside in southwest SD and portions of MN.

Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Cooler weather will continue through Monday with a majority observing highs from the mid 70s to low 80s.   Lows will be in the 50s tonight with a few isolated locations dipping into the upper 40s.

Here’s a look at dew points over the next four days: Low humidity will encompass the region through Tuesday with a slight increase in humidity across southeast SD and southern MN Wednesday.

Here’s a look at winds over the next four days: Lighter winds will continue through Monday before strengthening across the northern tier Tuesday and southward Wednesday.
