Good Saturday morning everyone! Mostly sunny skies prevail across a majority of the Northern Plains with a few clouds here and there across the Dakotas. A bigger cloud deck with a weakening swath of rain exists across the southern portions of SD. I expect this area of rain to slowly push out of the area by 2pm CDT this afternoon.
I am watching southwest SD for the potential of more scattered showers and storms to develop this afternoon into the evening hours. Storms will push east out of WY into southwest SD with more development possible in these areas after 2pm MDT, pushing southeast through day. A brief synopsis of what to expect is shown below. By 12am MDT tonight, I expect most of the region to be dry.
NSSL simulated radar through 6am MDT: Elsewhere across the region, isolated to widely scattered showers and storms will develop across ND, northeast SD, and MN due to added instability from daytime heating. As the sun sets, these areas of showers and storms will die out.
Total rainfall through 6am MDT Sunday morning:
NSSL simulated radar from 6am MDT through 10pm MDT Sunday: Upper-level energy will continue to hang around the western portions of the region Sunday where scattered showers and storms fueled by daytime heating are likely. The greatest coverage with these storms will be across the western/central Dakotas with isolated storm risks across the eastern Dakotas into MN. By 10pm MDT Sunday all remaining areas of showers and storms will have dissipated as instability decreases.
Total rainfall through the next 7 days depicts many receiving little rain thanks to high pressure positioned over the area during portions of the week. The best chance for rain currently resides in western SD and northeast MN. Most of ND appears to be unfavorable for rains over the next week with other models favoring this setup.
Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Cooler weather will continue through the weekend with a majority observing highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in 50s. A few isolated locations may dip into the 40s.
Here’s a look at dew points over the next four days: Low humidity will encompass the region through early next week.
Here’s a look at winds over the next four days: Lighter winds will continue through Monday before strengthening across the northern tier Tuesday.
