7-27-19 Minnesota: Short Term Update Through Sunday Evening.V.

Good Saturday afternoon!

A check on radar shows that we are completely dry across the state :

We expect this to continue for the rest of the evening and for much of the overnight. Here is a simulated radar loop from 7 PM CT this evening until 6 AM CT Sunday. We think some precip can start to creep its way into the state in the early morning/ sunrise hours in the SW corner of MN :

Another way to look at precip potential is through the upper level energy. Here is a modeled simulation of that from 7 PM CT this evening until 7 PM CT tomorrow evening. As we see, the area of energy (darker shades of red) starts to work into the MN/ Dakotas border right around sunrise time tomorrow morning, and stay around for much of the day tomorrow:

We do think that precip will become gradually more widespread and heavier as we work into the late morning and afternoon hours. Below is a simulated radar image from 7 AM CT Sunday until 7 PM CT. There can be some embedded strong to severe cells in this system, but this will not be a severe outbreak and would be mainly focused on the southern third of the state:

Highs tomorrow look to be on the cool side of things, highs in the low to mid 70s for much of the state with low 80s in the SE part of MN:

Rainfall guidance out through Sunday evening at 7 PM CT. We do think the bulk of this rain will mainly influence the southern 2/3 of the state, however we are keeping an eye on the potential for some rain bands in the northern part of the state that will be most prominent in N ND that can slide their way east as the day goes on tomorrow:

Below is the area where we think the heaviest rains can fall over the course of your Sunday. We think this area can see a general 0.5 to 1 inch, with some amounts over 2″ + where the heaviest bands set up. As mentioned earlier, we do think there can be some stronger or severe cells with this system, but would be mainly situated in the southern half of the area circled. Flash flooding could certainly be a problem as this rain could come down at rather high rates during the day tomorrow:
