Good Saturday afternoon!
A check on radar shows that we are pretty much completely dry across the states:
We expect this continue for the rest of the evening and some of the overnight for much of the area. Here is a simulated upper level energy loop from 7 PM CT this afternoon until 7 PM CT Sunday. This energy (darker shades of red) looks to work its way into Kansas in the overnight hours tonight and will continue to move off to the E before eventually reaching the KS/MO border tomorrow evening:
We do think that precip will slowly work its way W to E in Kansas throughout the day Sunday, becoming most prevalent in the afternoon to evening hours. Below is simulated radar from 1 AM CT Sunday morning until 1 PM CT Sunday. Missouri looks to stay dry during this timeframe:
A look at tomorrow afternoon/evening from 1 PM CT until 7 PM CT. The heaviest of activity looks to stay on a line from South Central Kansas up to NW Missouri, mainly focused in the later afternoon/early evening hours. Some of the cells in Kansas could be strong to severe, but right now we are not expecting this to be widespread or any severe outbreak. We also want to mention the risk for some PM pop up storms focused in the SE parts of MO. If anything fires, it does look to stay very scattered and nothing to cancel any plans for:
Kansas:
Missouri:
Highs tomorrow look to be on the warmer side of things, highs in the low to mid 90s for much of KS/MO, with some spots in SW KS reaching the mid to upper 90s:
Kansas:
Missouri:
Rainfall guidance out through Sunday evening at 7 PM CT. As mentioned, we will see scattered showers and storms overnight work across W Kansas into the morning hours. During the afternoon and evening Sunday, we think the heaviest rains will fall in the circled area . There is the risk for flash flooding where the heaviest cells set up as they could produce some impressive rain totals in a short amount of time. SE Missouri could see a pop up storm or two, but nothing in coverage or intensity like what should fall in the circled area. Rainfall amounts will vary greatly as it will all depend on the exact location of the heaviest cells, but a general 0.25 to 0.75 inches can be expected with amounts locally higher than 1.5 inches where we get those slow moving, heavy rain bands :
