Good Sunday afternoon! This will be a quick update regarding storm chances this afternoon through tonight across the area. A brief uptick in showers and storms has occurred in northwest ND associated with a disturbance that will bring storm chances to the central/eastern Dakotas, western MN, and northern/central NE. Between 2-4pm CDT additional showers and storms are expected to develop initially in central ND where the greatest lift will be at the time with more storms firing southward into SD between 4-6pm CDT this evening. Storm activity will develop from northern NE to southwest NE during a similar timeframe to SD, though, coverage may not be as high. From the time of initiation through about 9-10pm CDT tonight these storms will have the potential to be severe as discussed in the graphic below. I can’t rule out an isolated tornado as well. During the late afternoon and evening hours these storms will push east and by 8pm CDT will be pushing into far northwest MN and eventually the rest of western MN. These storms will encounter less favorable conditions overnight and will start to weaken with remaining storms pushing into northeast NE and the western portions of MN. Widely scattered remnants of these storms will push through the rest of MN and possibly even southern NE during the morning hours Monday. Shown below is a graphic regarding precipitation and areas with the best shot to see these storms, though, not everyone will receive rains given the scattered nature of the storms.
